MEANING
Derived from latin word ‘person’ meaning ‘the mask’ personality in unique & not the same of two individuals.
 In other words, it is said to be one physical appearance, his habits, his wages of dressing up, his reputation his manners other similar characteristics.

DEFINITION
 According to weinverg and could (1999) personality refers to the characteristics or traits or combination of traits (qualities) that makes a person unique.
    According to Guildford, “personality is an individual” unique of traits (qualities).

PERSONALITY IS DIVIDED INTO 3 STEPS (LEVELS)  

1.  PSYCHOLOGICAL CORE - Attitudes, values, external interest, motives.
2.  TYPICAL RESPONSES - means how ane usually respond to the world around us. For e.g. introvert, extrovert, shy, start temper internal.
3.  ROLE RELATED BEHAVIORS- It means different sole played by an individual at different times for e.g. in front of a coach he is a trainee with his teammates he is a team member or friend at home he/she is a son is a son/ daughter, brother sister, father/mother. This behavior is the most changeable aspect of personality.

RELATIONSHIP OF PERSONALITY WITH SPORT PERFORMANCE

1)    TEAM VS INDIVIDUAL SPORTS
Scour found that team game athletes are more dependent extraverted and anxious bat less imaginative than individual game athletes

2)    FEMALE ATHLETES  VS FEMALE NON- ATHLETES

Thus Morgan found that more successful athlete had a positive mental health profile that confusion the les successful athletes, successful athlete.

MEANING OF MOTIVE
Motive is a combination of thought, feeling or condition that causes one to act.
Human behavior is controlled directed and modified through certain motive. For e.g. It a player wants to win the gold medal at intentional level & works hard for years to get the gold medal, we will say that his motive is for a long period

NEED

Needs are general wants or desires that form the very basis of one’s behavior. A particular need gives rise to an activating force which moves an individual to actor behave in a specific manner

MEANING OF MOTIVATION
The word motivation is derived from the latin word movers “meaning to change”  “to move”. It involves a complex combination of individual need, desires, tensions, discomforts, aspirations, emotions & expectations; it is a morale bashing activity.

DEFINITION OF MOTIVATION
According to sage, “the drive to strive” is motivation
According to crooks & stein, motivation is defined as “any condition that might energise & direct our actions.”

 TYPES OF MOTIVATION
1.    Intrinsic motivation:- It refers to internal motives for e.g. an activity for fun, enjoyment personal satisfaction, happiness etc. i.e. doing the activity for its own sake without  concerned for external a words or rewords for e.g. when a person indulges in any sports to have mastery, to display superiority or to gain social approval.
2.    Extrinsic Motivation:- It refers to external motives i.e. directed to words achievement of external rewords for e.g. job, promotion name & fame, medal, trophies, price money etc. such devices motivate some persons more strongly than others.
